Chitosan-Based Bioactive Formulations for the Control of Powdery Mildew in Viticulture

Grapevine is highly susceptible to fungal diseases, whose incidence and severity increase due climate change. The present work focuses on the assessment of eight combinations natural products with chitosan oligomers fungicidal capacity that may be effective in integrated control powdery mildew, compliance Article 14 European Directive 2009/128/EC. Their efficacy was evaluated field conditions against infections, a plot high disease pressure during growing season (assaying both foliar or root application), overwintering inoculums (chasmothecia) through vitro tests. In addition, their possible biostimulant capacities were based harvest yields. Treatments combination secondary metabolites Streptomyces spp. combined hydrolyzed gluten showed best results terms control. Given these formulations, comparable conventional antifungals, they constitute an interesting alternative for this treatment can, some cases, represent almost half production costs.
